This could have been a good book. It was a good book until the end, when the lead female Marshall decided to be a strong, self-sacrificing woman and deny herself happiness because she couldn't bear the idea of losing someone ever again. She's a US Marshall, and rather than solve the case in 20 seconds (I'm pretty sure I know who did it, now), she has to give a speech, deny herself happiness, and send her partner away. And quote God, who would probably tell her to stop being such a wimp.So, decent mystery, until Madison is an idiot at the end and makes you hate her guts. Don't read it unless you find spine-free women attractrive. I generally like this author but in this instance I found myself frequently bored . I finished the book , but really just because I had paid for it. That said her other books have been quite good.
